Crafted from lead-free glass.
For Special Purchase Order products (SPOs) we ask customers to allow approximately 6 weeks from the date of purchase for us to complete orders.
All pieces are individually hand signed 'Bath' and dated with the year they were made.
No moulds are used in the shaping of our glass, each piece is handcrafted and unique therefore all sizes are approximate and matching sets may vary slightly.
History of the Airtwist:
In the 18th Century, master glass makers would draw spiral patterns in the stem as they made the glass. If they used air bubbles it was called an airtwist; if they used threads, either white or coloured, it would be called opaque twist.
Air twists in glass coincided with the glass tax of 1745, taxing the overall weight of the glass. By incorporating air into the heavy stem of the glass the makers were able to keep the production costs down whilst opening up a vast range of new designs.
A pair of these Jane Austen glasses were presented by the Mayor of Bath to Queen Elizabeth II on her Royal Jubilee visit to the city.
