Unique Christmas presents

Buying with a difference

Buying a present is important and buying something which is made in your own country is rare these days. Everything that is produced by the Bath Aqua glass artists are made with love and care. The expression,' it the thought that counts' is very true and if you buy something hand-crafted you have thought and acknowleged the love and care which goes into the making process which transfers to the reciever.

Whether it be stained glass panel or a hand blown vessel or a piece of jewellery everything has been made with love. You can watch us making if you visit Bath all details are on the site.

The history of Christmas

The winter Solstice  is the earliest time the custom of gifts, citizens were encouraged to give them to their emperor  of January 1st, this time of year was known as Kalends and the presents were known as Strenae. The emperor Caligula made it law which obliged his highest ranking officer to give gifts.

First of all they gave Olive branches but Caligula thought this boring and they then gave honey and cakes which symbolised  a sweet and happy new year.

Christmas presents have changed even in my life time, for my mother who came from a long family, who were  very poor, got an orange and if they were lucky  a threepenny bit. This  was a welcome gift In those days. My chidhood in the sixties was the beginning of waste I feel, with the event of the plastics revolution we were given Sindy and Barbie dolls etc. although the best present I ever had was a hand made dolls house by my father in wood he put in the wallpaper we had in our own house.
